Replica of Thor’s Hammer, Mjolnir

What is it?

The Mjolnir replica is a project that the Spark Design Studio has been working on for some time. The hammer model is a recreation of the Thor’s Hammer, based on the one in the movie “Avengers” by Marvel Studios.

The result of this is a life-sized hammer removable from its personalized perch that it sits in for display. It is meant to be an epic display of the Modeling and 3D printing capabilities of the Spark Design Studio.

Design and Creation

First, the hammer was designed in Autodesk 3ds max, based on the hammer from the movies.

Then, it was exported to Autodesk Maya for refinement and revisions to make it 3D printable, as well as scaling it to life size.

After this, it went through various test prints for further refinement, all of which were sliced using Cura LULZBOT edition.

From there, it was separated into 6 core pieces; the hammer’s center base, the two side pieces, the handle, the hilt on the handle, and the cylinder on opposite of the handle.

These were all printed separately on the TAZ workhorses found in the Spark Design Studio. These pieces were then epoxied together into the final product, with a support rod through the middle of the whole thing.
